We set out with the Prophet ﷺ thinking only that it was for Hajj. When we arrived, we performed tawaf around the House, and the Prophet ﷺ commanded those who had not brought sacrificial animals to exit the state of ihram. So those who had not brought sacrificial animals exited ihram, and his wives, who had not brought any, also exited ihram.
It was narrated by Bukhari in the Hajj (1561), and Muslim in the Hajj (1211: 128), both through the route of Jareer, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, from Aswad, from Ayesha, and I have related it.In a version narrated by Muslim (130), through the route of Muhammad bin Jafar, from Shubah, from Hakam, from Ali bin Husayn, from Zakwan the freed slave of Ayesha, from Ayesha, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived when four or five days of Dhul-Hijjah had passed, and he came in to me while he was angry. I said, "Who has angered you, O Messenger of Allah, may Allah make him enter the Fire?" He said, "Did you not notice that I commanded the people with something, and then they hesitated over it?"Hakam said, meaning they hesitated, I think, and had I known beforehand what I came to know afterward, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal with me, but would have bought it there, then come out of the state of ihram as they did.
