The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Jibreel came to me and instructed me to command my companions," or "those with me, to raise their voices with the talbiyah," or "with the ihlal," meaning one of the two.
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: أتاني جبريل فأمرني أن آمر أصحابي- أو من معي- أن يرفعوا أصواتهم بالتلبية أو بالإهلال يريد أحدهما.
Malik narrated it in the Book of Hajj (34) from Abdullah bin Abu Bakr bin Muhammad bin Amr bin Hazm, from Abdul-Malik bin Abu Bakr bin Harith bin Hisham, from Khallad bin Saaib Ansari, from his father, with this wording.Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Rites (1814) from Qanabi, from Malik, with this wording, similarly.Tirmidhi (829), Nasai (2752), and Ibn Majah (2922) all narrated it through the route of Sufyan bin Uyayna, from Abdullah bin Abu Bakr, with this wording, similarly, except that in Tirmidhi's version it appears as "with raising the voice and talbiyah," in Nasai's version as "with talbiyah" only, and in Ibn Majah's version as "with raising the voice" only.Imam Ahmad also narrated it (16557) from Sufyan bin Uyayna, with this wording, matching the wording of Ibn Majah. Its isnad is sahih, and all its narrators are trustworthy.Tirmidhi said, "The hadith of Khallad from his father is a sahih hadith."Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih (2625, 2627), as did Ibn Hibban (3802) and Hakim (1/450) through the route of Sufyan, with this wording. Hakim said, "Sahih in isnad."
