Abdullah bin Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to stop at Dhul-Hulayfah whenever he performed Umrah, and during his Hajj when he made the pilgrimage, he camped beneath an acacia tree at the spot where the mosque now stands at Dhul-Hulayfah. Whenever he returned from a military expedition along that route, or from Hajj or Umrah, he would descend into the bed of a valley. When he came up out of the valley, he would have his mount kneel at the open sandy stretch on the eastern edge of the valley and would rest there until morning. This was not at the mosque built of stones, nor on the hillock upon which the mosque stands. There was a creek there where Abdullah used to pray, and at its bottom were sandhills upon which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray. Then the floodwater swept sand into it until the place where Abdullah used to pray was buried.Abdullah bin Umar reported that the Prophet ﷺ prayed at the location of the small mosque, the one closer than the mosque at the heights of al-Rawha. Abdullah knew the very spot where the Prophet ﷺ had prayed. He would say, "It is over there to your right when you stand to pray in the mosque." That mosque is on the right-hand side of the road as you travel toward Makkah, and between it and the larger mosque is the distance of a stone's throw or thereabouts.Ibn Umar used to pray facing the rocky ridge near the descent of al-Rawha. The end of that ridge stops at the edge of the road, before the mosque that lies between it and the descent as you head toward Makkah. A mosque was later built there, but Abdullah bin Umar did not pray inside that mosque. He would leave it to his left and behind him, and pray in front of it, facing the ridge itself. Abdullah would set out from al-Rawha and would not pray Zuhr until he reached that spot, where he would then pray Zuhr. When he was coming from Makkah, if he passed by it an hour before dawn or in the last part of the night, he would stop and rest there until he prayed Fajr at that place.Abdullah reported that the Prophet ﷺ used to stop beneath a huge sarha tree on the near side of al-Ruwaythah, to the right of the road and facing the road, in a level sandy spot, until you come out from a hillock just short of the postal station of al-Ruwaythah by about two miles. Its top has broken off and folded over into its trunk, yet it stands upon its stem, and at its base are many sandhills.Abdullah bin Umar reported that the Prophet ﷺ prayed at the edge of a small valley behind al-Arj as you head toward Hadabah. Beside that mosque are two or three graves, with heaps of stones piled upon them, on the right side of the road by the acacia trees that line it. Among those acacias, Abdullah would set out from al-Arj after the sun had passed its zenith at midday, and he would pray Zuhr in that mosque.Abdullah bin Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ camped beside some sarha trees on the left of the road, in a watercourse short of Harsha. That watercourse adjoins the foot of Harsha, and between it and the road is a distance of about a bowshot. Abdullah would pray facing the sarha that was the closest of those trees to the road, which was also the tallest of them.Abdullah bin Umar reported that the Prophet ﷺ used to camp in the watercourse at the nearer end of Marr al-Zahran, on the Madinah side, when descending from al-Safrawat. He would camp in the bed of that watercourse on the left of the road as you head toward Makkah. Between the camping place of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the road there was no more than a stone's throw.Abdullah bin Umar reported that the Prophet ﷺ used to camp at Dhu Tuwa and spend the night there until morning, then pray Fajr there when arriving at Makkah. The praying place of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on a rough hillock. It was not at the mosque later built there, but lower down, on a rough hillock.Abdullah bin Umar reported that the Prophet ﷺ would face the two gaps of the mountain that lay between him and the long mountain in the direction of the Kaabah. He would place the mosque later built there to the left of the mosque on the edge of the hillock, while the praying place of the Prophet ﷺ was below it on the black hillock. You leave about ten cubits of the hillock, then pray facing the two gaps of the mountain that lie between you and the Kaabah.
