Ukaz, Majannah, and Dhul-Majaz were marketplaces during the pre-Islamic era. When Islam came, the people felt as though it would be sinful to trade there, so the verse was revealed, "There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord" [Baqarah 2:198], referring to the seasons of Hajj. Thus did Ibn Abbas recite it.
كانت عكاظ، ومجنة، وذو المجاز أسواقا في الجاهلية فلما كان الإسلام فكأنهم تأثموا فيه فنزلت: {ليس عليكم جناح أن تبتغوا فضلا من ربكم} في مواسم الحج قرأها ابن عباس.
Bukhari narrated it in several places, including in the Book of Sales (2050), from Abdullah bin Muhammad, who said, "Sufyan narrated to us, from Amr, from Ibn Abbas," and he mentioned it.In another version, "They used not to trade at Mina, so they were commanded to trade when they departed from Arafat." Abu Dawud narrated it (1731), and it contains Yazid bin Abu Ziyad, who is the Hashimi, one of the men of Muslim used in corroboration, except that he is daif according to the majority of scholars.
