Maymuna bint Harith told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married her while he was not in a state of ihram. He said, "She was my maternal aunt and the maternal aunt of Ibn Abbas."
حدثتني ميمونة بنت الحارث؛ أن رسول الله ﷺ تزوجها وهو حلال. قال: وكانت خالتي وخالة ابن عباس.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Marriage (1411) from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, who said, Yahya bin Adam told us, Jareer bin Hazim told us, Abu Fazara (who is Rashid bin Kaysan Absi) told us, from Yazid bin Asam, who said, Maymuna told me, and he related it. As for his statement, "and she was my aunt...", the speaker is Yazid bin Asam.Ahmad also narrated it (26828) through another route, from Abu Fazara, narrating from Yazid bin Asam, from Maymuna, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married her while in a state of ihram-free normalcy (halal), consummated the marriage with her while halal, and she died at Sarif, so he buried her in the shelter that had been built there, and I and Ibn Abbas went down into her grave.Ibn Hibban (4134) and Hakim (4/31) added, When we placed her in the burial niche, her head tilted, so I took my cloak and placed it under her head, but Ibn Abbas pulled it away and threw it aside. She had shaved her head during Hajj, so her head had begun to grow hair back.In Hakim's version, after the words "and threw it aside," it adds, "and placed a kadhana, meaning a stone, by her head."As for the statement "she had shaved her head during Hajj," this was perhaps for reasons related to some ailment, for otherwise the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade a woman from shaving her head. And as for the statement "so her head had begun to grow hair back," it means the hair had started growing in it.
