Abdullah bin Harith reported,

He prepared food for Uthman that included partridge, sandgrouse, and game meat. He sent for Ali bin Abu Talib, and the messenger came to him while he was beating leaves off branches as fodder for his camels. Ali came to them while still dusting the leaves from his hands. They said to him, "Eat."He replied, "Feed it to people who are not in the state of ihram, for we are in ihram."Then Ali رضي الله عنه said, "I adjure by Allah anyone here from Ashja, do you not know that a man once gifted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a wild donkey while he was in the state of ihram, and he refused to eat it?"They answered, "Yes."
