Anas performed Hajj on a saddle, and he was not stingy. He related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Hajj on a saddle, and it also served as the mount carrying his provisions.
حج أنس على رحل ولم يكن شحيحا، وحدث أن رسول الله ﷺ حج على رحل وكانت زاملته.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Hajj (1517) as a suspended report, saying, Muhammad bin Abu Bakr (he is Muqaddami) said, Yazid bin Zuray told us, Azra bin Thabit told us, from Thumama, and so on, mentioning it.This is suspended, as Mizzi said in al-Atraf (1/16). Bayhaqi connected it (4/334) through the route of Yusuf bin Yaqub the judge, who said, Muhammad bin Abu Bakr told us with his chain, similarly, and he pointed to Bukhari's suspended version.Ibn Hibban likewise connected it (3754) from Hasan bin Sufyan, and Abu Yaala in his book, both of whom said, Muhammad bin Abu Bakr Muqaddami told us, with his chain. However, in Abu Dharr's version it appears as connected, and this is what the Hafiz relied upon in his commentary, while pointing to the other version, "and Muhammad bin Abu Bakr said."As for his statement, "and his zamilah was," this means the mount he rode, and the zamilah is the camel that carries food and belongings, from zaml, meaning a load. What is meant is that he did not have a separate pack animal carrying his food and belongings, rather that was carried with him on his own mount, which served as both his riding animal and his pack animal.See Fath al-Bari (3/381).
