A man came to Madinah, and the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Where are you staying?"He replied, "With so-and-so, a woman."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Did she shut her door upon you? No woman should perform Hajj except in the company of a male relative within the prohibited degrees of marriage."
جاء رجل إلى المدينة، فقال النبي ﷺ أين نزلت؟ قال على فلانة قال: أغلقت عليك بابها؟ لا تحجن امرأة إلا ومعها ذو محرم.

Daraqutni (2/222–223) and Abu Awana, as in Ithaf (9026), both narrated it through the hadith of Abu Humayd Masissi, who said, Hajjaj narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj narrated to us, from Amr bin Dinar, from Abu Mabad the freed slave of Ibn Abbas, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.Daraqutni paired him with Ikrima in doubt, saying, "Abu Mabad or Ikrima," but it is from Abu Mabad without doubt. Hajjaj here is Ibn Muhammad Masissi, known as Awar, whose narrations became mixed up.Bazzar narrated it in his Musnad, Amr bin Ali narrated to us, Abu Asim narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said, Amr bin Dinar informed me, he heard Mabad the freed slave of Ibn Abbas narrating from Ibn Abbas, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A woman must not go on hajj except with a mahram accompanying her." A man then said, "O Prophet of Allah, I have enlisted for such and such expedition, and my wife is going on hajj." He said, "Go back and perform hajj with her." Zaylai mentioned this in Nasb Raya (3/10).This contains a corroboration for Hajjaj Masissi, whose narrations became mixed up later in life when he came to Baghdad, corroborated by Abu Asim Dahhak bin Makhlad Nabil, who is trustworthy and a hafiz. Its chain is sahih, and Ibn Hajar also graded it sahih in Diraya (4/2).
