The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was performing itikaf in the mosque when he heard people raising their voices in reciting the Quran. He drew back the curtain and said, "Each of you is conversing privately with his Lord, so do not disturb one another, and do not raise your voices over one another in recitation," or he said, "in prayer."
اعتكف رسول الله ﷺ في المسجد، فسمعهم يجهرون بالقرآن، فكشف الستر، فقال: ألا إن كلكم مناج ربه، فلا يؤذين بعضكم بعضا. ولا يرفع بعضكم على بعض في القراءة. أو قال: في الصلاة.
Abu Dawud (1332) narrated it, and from him Ibn Abdul-Barr, from Hasan bin Ali, who said, Abdul-Razzaq narrated to us, who said, Mamar informed us, from Ismail bin Umaya, from Abu Salama, from Abu Saeed, and he related it.Imam Ahmad (11896) also narrated it from Abdul-Razzaq, and it appears in his Musannaf (4216). Ibn Khuzayma (1162) graded it sahih, as did Hakim (1/310-311). Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of the two Shaykhs." And Ibn Abdul-Barr graded it sahih as already mentioned.
