The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to the people while they were praying, and their voices had grown loud with the Quran. He said, "The one praying is conversing privately with his Lord, so let him consider how he addresses Him. Do not raise your voices over one another with the Quran."
أن رسول الله ﷺ خرج على الناس وهم يصلون، وقد علت أصواتهم بالقرآن، فقال: إن المصلي يناجي ربه فلينظر بما يناجيه به، ولا يجهر بعضكم على بعض بالقرآن.
Malik narrated it in "The Prayer" (31), from Yahya bin Saeed, from Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Harith Taymi, from Abu Hazim Tammar, from Bayadi. Imam Ahmad narrated it (19022), from Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi, from Malik, and he mentioned it in the same way.The origin of this hadith concerned the prayer of Ramadan, as Hammad bin Zayd narrated it from Yahya bin Saeed, saying in it, "That was during Ramadan."Via this route, Ibn Abdul-Barr narrated it in Tamhid (23/316-317), from Muhammad bin Ibrahim, from Abu Hazim, the freed slave of the Ansar, that the Messenger of Allah was in seclusion for devotion during Ramadan in a tent, with a mat hung over its doorway. He said, the people would pray in scattered groups. He said, then one night he lifted the door of the tent and put out his head, and when the people saw him they fell silent. He said, "The one praying is in intimate conversation with his Lord, so let each of you take care what he says to his Lord in that conversation, and do not raise your voices over one another in reciting the Quran."Ibn Abdul-Barr said, this is how Hammad bin Zayd narrated this hadith, from Yahya bin Saeed, from Muhammad, from Abu Hazim, from the Prophet, as a mursal narration, without mentioning Bayadi. Likewise it was narrated by everyone who transmitted it from Hammad bin Zayd.He also said, this hadith was narrated by Yazid bin Hadi, from Muhammad bin Ibrahim, from Abu Hazim, from Bayadi, and also from Muhammad bin Ibrahim, from Ata bin Yasar, from Bayadi.I say, from these two routes Nasai narrated it in Kubra (2/264).Then Ibn Abdul-Barr said, "The hadith of Bayadi and the hadith of Abu Saeed are both established and sahih." End of quote. As for the hadith of Abu Saeed, it is the one that follows.
