Abu Saeed Khudri reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform itikaf during the middle ten days of Ramadan. One year he observed itikaf as usual, and when the night of the twenty-first came, the night after which he would normally leave his itikaf in the morning, he said, "Whoever has been performing itikaf with me, let him continue it through the last ten days. I was shown this night, then I was made to forget it. But I saw myself prostrating in water and mud on its morning. So seek it in the last ten days, and seek it on every odd night."Abu Saeed said, "The sky rained that night, and the mosque had a roof of palm branches, so it leaked."Abu Saeed continued, "My own eyes saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ leave the mosque with the trace of water and mud on his forehead and nose, on the morning of the twenty-first."

عن أبي سعيد الخدري أنه قال

كان رسول الله ﷺ يعتكف العشر الوسط من رمضان، فاعتكف عاما، حتى إذا كان ليلة إحدى وعشرين. وهي التي يخرج فيها من صبحها من اعتكافه. قال: من اعتكف معي فليعتكف العشر الأواخر. وقد رأيت هذه الليلة، ثم انسيتها. وقد رأيتني أسجد من صبحها في ماء وطين. فالتمسوها في العشر الأواخر، فالتمسوها في كل وتر. قال أبو سعيد: فأمطرت السماء تلك الليلة، وكان المسجد على عريش، فوكف المسجد. قال أبو سعيد: فأبصرت عيناي رسول الله ﷺ انصرف وعلى جبهته وأنفه أثر الماء والطين: من صبح ليلة إحدى وعشرين.
