Someone came to me while I was asleep during Ramadan and said to me, "Tonight is Laylat al-Qadr." So I got up, still drowsy, and held on to one of the ropes of the tent of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found him praying. I looked at what night it was, and it turned out to be the twenty-third night.Ibn Abbas said, "Satan rises with the sun every day except on the morning following Laylat al-Qadr, for on that day the sun rises without any rays."
أتيت وأنا نائم في رمضان، فقيل لي: إن الليلة ليلة القدر، فقمت وأنا ناعس، فتعلقت ببعض أطناب فسطاط رسول الله ﷺ، فأتيت رسول الله ﷺ وهو يصلي. فنظرت في الليلة فإذا هي ليلة ثلاث وعشرين. قال ابن عباس: إن الشيطان يطلع مع الشمس كل يوم إلا ليلة القدر، وذلك أنها تطلع يومئذ ولا شعاع لها.
Bayhaqi related it in Fadail al-Awqat (104) via Musaddad, who said, "Abu Ahwas told us, from Simak, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas," and he mentioned it. Imam Ahmad related it (2302) from Affan, who said, "Abu Ahwas told us," with his chain, except that he did not mention the sign of Laylat al-Qadr. Abu Dawud Tayalisi related it (2790) from Sallam, from Simak, except that he placed it on the night of the twenty-fourth. Simak's transmission from Ikrima has been criticized.
