The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came upon a stream from the sky while the people were fasting on a hot day, traveling on foot, and the Prophet of Allah was riding his mule. He said, "Drink, people."But they refused.He said, "I am not like you. I am the most at ease among you, for I am riding."Still they refused. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ swung his thigh over and dismounted, then drank, and the people drank as well, though he had not wanted to drink.
أتى رسول الله ﷺ على نهر من السماء، والناس صيام في يوم صائف مشاة، ونبي الله على بغلة له، فقال: اشربوا أيها الناس. قال: فأبوا. قال: إني لست مثلكم إني أيسركم، إني راكبفأبوا. فثنى رسول الله ﷺ فخذه فنزل فشرب، وشرب الناس، وما كان يريد أن يشرب.
Ahmad (11423) and Abu Yaala (1214) both narrated it from the hadith of Abdul-Samad bin Abdul-Warith, who said, my father narrated to me, Jareeri narrated to us, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Saeed, and he mentioned it.Jareeri is Saeed bin Abu Iyas, who became confused in his memory toward the end of his life. Abdul-Warith, the father of Abdul-Samad, was among those who narrated from him before this confusion set in.Ibn Khuzayma (1966) and Ibn Hibban (3550, 3556) graded it sahih, through other routes from Jareeri, among them Ibn Mubarak, who was also among those who heard from Jareeri before the confusion set in.His saying, "a river from the sky," means rainwater.
