He said, while circling the House, "By the Lord of the Kaabah, it was not I who forbade fasting on Friday. It was Muhammad ﷺ, by the Lord of the Kaabah, who forbade it."
قال- وهو يطوف بالبيت. ورب الكعبة، ما أنا نهيت عن صيام يوم الجمعة، محمد ﷺ- ورب الكعبة- نهي عنها.
Imam Ahmad narrated it (7388), as did Abdul-Razzaq (7807), and from him Ahmad again (7839), and Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih (2157), as did Ibn Hibban (3609), all of them by way of Amr bin Dinar, who said, Yahya bin Jadah told me that he heard Abdullah bin Amr Qari say, I heard Abu Hurairah say (then he narrated the hadith). Then Amr (meaning Ibn Dinar) says, "when observed alone." Some of them added, "whoever wakes in a state of ritual impurity should not fast."Its chain of transmission is hasan, for Abdullah bin Amr, who is Ibn Abdul-Qari, is among the men relied upon by Muslim, but no one besides Ibn Hibban confirmed his reliability, as found in some copies of "Thiqat." For this reason, the Hafiz said of him, "acceptable," meaning if corroborated, and indeed he has been corroborated. He was corroborated by Muhammad bin Jafar Makhzumi, who said, a man met Abu Hurairah while he was circling the House, and said, "Abu Hurairah, did you forbid people from fasting on Friday?" He said, "No, by the Lord of the Kaaba, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade it."Ahmad narrated it (9097) from Yunus, who said, Mastur, meaning Ibn Abbad, told us, Muhammad bin Jafar Makhzumi told us, and he then narrated it.This chain of transmission is sahih. Muhammad bin Jafar is named after his grandfather, being Muhammad bin Abbad bin Jafar bin Rifa Makhzumi, among the men relied upon by the entire community of scholars. Mastur, also called Mustawrid, bin Abbad Hinai, is trustworthy, and Nasai transmitted from him.As for Abdullah bin Amr Qari, some have erred and named him Abdul-Rahman bin Amr Qari, but the correct name is what we have established.
