I asked Jabir bin Abdullah, while he was performing tawaf around the Kabah, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid fasting on Fridays?"He replied, "Yes, by the Lord of this House."
سألت جابر بن عبد الله- وهو يطوف بالبيت-: نهي رسول الله ﷺ عن صيام يوم الجمعة؟ فقال: نعم ورب هذا البيت.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Fasting (1143) from Amr Naqid, who said, Sufyan bin Uyayna narrated to us, from Abdul-Hameed bin Jubayr, from Muhammad bin Abbad bin Jafar, and he related it.He also narrated it through Abdul-Razzaq, and it appears in his Musannaf (7808), from Ibn Jurayj, who said, Abdul-Hameed bin Jubayr bin Shayba informed me, with his chain of transmission, and he related it. Abdul-Razzaq related it similarly, except that he said in it, "Did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid fasting on Friday?"As for Muslim, he did not give the full wording of the hadith, but rather referred back to what had preceded.Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Fasting (1984) from Abu Asim, from Ibn Jurayj, but he did not mention the story about tawaf. Bukhari said, "Others besides Abu Asim added, 'that he should fast it alone.'"
