The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade continuous fasting out of mercy for them.They said, "But you yourself fast continuously."He replied, "I am not like you. My Lord feeds me and gives me drink."
نهي رسول الله ﷺ عن الوصال رحمة لهم، فقالوا: إنك تواصل؟ قال: إني لست كهيئتكم، إني يطعمني ربي ويسقين.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Fasting (1964) from Muhammad bin Salam and Uthman bin Abu Shayba, who both said, "Abdah bin Sulayman informed us, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha," and he mentioned it. Bukhari said, "Uthman did not mention the phrase 'a mercy for them.'" But Muslim related it in the Book of Fasting (1105) from Ishaq bin Ibrahim and Uthman bin Abu Shayba, both from Abdah bin Sulayman, and they both mentioned it in the same way. He did not clarify that her statement, "the mercy of Allah upon them," is not found in Uthman's narration. And Allah, the Exalted, knows best.
