Abu Ubayd reported, I attended the Eid prayer with Umar bin al-Khattab. He prayed, then turned to face the people and addressed them, saying, "These are two days on which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting. One is the day you break your fast, and the other is the day you eat from your sacrificial offerings."Abu Ubayd continued, Then I attended the Eid prayer with Uthman bin Affan. He came, prayed, then turned and delivered the sermon, saying, "Two Eids have coincided for you on this day of yours. Whoever among the people of al-Aliyah wishes to wait for the Friday prayer may wait for it, and whoever wishes to return home, I have given him permission to do so."Abu Ubayd continued, Then I attended the Eid prayer with Ali bin Abu Talib, while Uthman was under siege. He came, prayed, then turned and delivered the sermon.
Malik narrated it in the Two Eids (5), from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Ubayd, the freed slave of Ibn Azhar, and he related it. Bukhari narrated it in Fasting (1990), and Muslim narrated it in Fasting (1137), both of them from the hadith of Malik, except that neither of them mentioned Abu Ubayd's statement that was attributed only to Uthman and Ali as a stopped report, since he did not raise it to the Prophet. Then Bukhari mentioned, in the Book of Drinks (5571, 5572, 5573), through another route, from Yunus, from Zuhri, the report raised to the Prophet from Umar, along with the two stopped reports from Uthman and Ali, and he noted a defect in the wording of Ali's sermon which Malik had omitted, which is, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden you to eat the meat of your sacrifices after three days." He said, "And from Mamar, from Zuhri, from Abu Ubayd, similarly." End.Perhaps Malik omitted Ali's sermon because the prohibition against eating the meat of sacrifices after three days was abrogated. Also, Bukhari, may Allah have mercy on him, likewise abridged the hadith of Mamar, from Zuhri, from Abu Ubayd, with his words "similarly," even though what Abdul-Razzaq (5636) narrated from Mamar contains Uthman raising the hadith to the Prophet ﷺ, and this is its wording.Abdul-Razzaq, from Mamar, from Zuhri, from Abu Ubayd, the freed slave of Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, said that he attended the Eid prayer with Umar bin Khattab, who prayed before delivering the sermon, without a call to prayer or a second call, then he delivered the sermon and said, "O people, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on these two days. As for one of them, it is the day you break your fast from your fasting, and your festival day, and as for the other, it is the day on which you eat your sacrificial meat."He said, then I attended it with Uthman, and that was on a Friday, and he prayed before delivering the sermon, without a call to prayer or a second call, then he delivered the sermon to the people and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on these two days. As for one of them, it is the day you break your fast from your fasting, and your festival day, and as for the other, it is the day on which you eat your sacrificial meat." He said, then I attended it with Uthman again, and that was also on a Friday, and he prayed before delivering the sermon, without a call to prayer or a second call, then he delivered the sermon to the people and said, "O people, this is a day on which two festivals have come together for you. Whoever among you is from the outlying settlements has been given permission to return, and whoever wishes may remain for the prayer."He said, then I attended it with Ali, and he prayed before delivering the sermon, without a call to prayer or a second call, then he delivered the sermon and said, "O people, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden you to eat your sacrificial meat after three nights, so do not eat it after that."So Mamar raised, from Zuhri, the hadith of Uthman regarding the prohibition of fasting on these two days, but he did not mention in it the hadith of Ali regarding the prohibition of fasting on these two days, neither as a raised report nor as a stopped one. However, Saeed bin Khalid bin Abdullah bin Qariz narrated it from Abu Ubayd, the freed slave of Abdul-Rahman bin Azhar, and he said, "I saw Ali and Uthman praying on the day of Fitr and Adha, then they would turn and remind the people." He said, "And I heard them both say, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on these two days.'"Imam Ahmad narrated it (435), and Bazzar in Kashf Astar (407), and Nasai in Sunan al-Kubra (2788), all of them through the route of Ibn Abu Dhib, from Saeed bin Khalid, and he related it.Saeed bin Khalid bin Abdullah bin Qariz, Madani, is disputed. Nasai graded him daif, while Daraqutni said, "A man of Madinah whose narration is accepted as evidence," and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, and in Taqrib he is described as "truthful."Therefore Ibn Abdul-Barr said in Tamhid (10/237), "Saeed bin Khalid raised the prohibition of fasting on the two days mentioned in the hadith from the hadith of Ali and Uthman, while Ibn Shihab raises it from the hadith of Umar bin Khattab, and the view of Ibn Shihab is considered by them more likely to be correct."This is despite the fact that Mamar also narrated it from Zuhri, as Abdul-Razzaq recorded from him, as mentioned earlier, in which the hadith is raised regarding Uthman without mention of Ali. Ibn Abdul-Barr, after the statement quoted above, cited the hadith of Abdul-Razzaq from Mamar, but he abridged its wording and did not mention in it the hadith of Uthman being raised. So I do not know whether he found it that way in Abdul-Razzaq's version, or whether he simply omitted it.It appears that there was a difference of narration regarding Zuhri. Malik narrated from him only the report raised regarding Umar bin Khattab, while Mamar narrated from him and added the report raised regarding Uthman bin Affan. Saeed bin Khalid differed from both of them, narrating from Abu Ubayd and raising the hadith to both Ali and Uthman together. But Saeed bin Khalid has been criticized, so his raising it to Ali contains some irregularity. And Allah knows best.
