The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "How many days of the month have passed?"We said, "Twenty-two, and eight remain."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The month is like this, and like this, and like this," three times, and he held back one finger.
Ibn Majah (1656) narrated it from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, who said, Abu Muawiya told us, from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it.Imam Ahmad (7423), Ibn Hibban (3450), and Bayhaqi (4/310) all narrated it from the hadith of Abu Muawiya with his chain of transmission, similarly. Ibn Khuzayma (2179) also graded it sahih, and narrated it by another route from Amash, with his chain, in which it states, "We mentioned Laylat al-Qadr in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'How much of the month has passed?'" and he mentioned the hadith in similar fashion.
