The Prophet ﷺ said, "None of you should say, 'I fasted the entirety of Ramadan and stood the entirety of it in prayer.'"I do not know whether he disliked it because of self-praise, or whether he said, "There must be some sleep or rest."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: لا يقولن أحدكم: إني صمت رمضان كله وقمته كله فلا أدري أكره التزكية، أو قال: لا بد من نومة أو رقدة.
Reported by Abu Dawud (2415), Nasai (2109), and Ahmad (20406), and graded sahih by Ibn Khuzayma (2075) and Ibn Hibban (3439), all of them from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed, who said, Muhallab bin Abu Habibah narrated to us, who said, Hasan narrated to us, from Abu Bakra, and he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Muhallab bin Abu Habibah, for he is hasan al-hadith. In it is Hasan, that is, the son of Abu Hasan Basri, whose father's name was Yasar, one of the great leading imams, except that he engaged frequently in tadlis and irsal. Daraqutni said that Hasan did not hear from Abu Bakra.However, Alai mentioned in Jami Tahsil, "He has several hadiths from him in Sahih Bukhari, among them the hadith of the eclipse, and among them the hadith 'May Allah increase your eagerness, but do not repeat it.' Even though explicit mention of hearing is not stated in them, Bukhari does not content himself with mere possibility of meeting, as was mentioned previously. The utmost that Daraqutni relied on for his objection is that Hasan narrated the hadiths of Ahnaf bin Qays from Abu Bakra, and that does not preclude his having heard from him what Bukhari reported." End of quote.Abu Zura Iraqi added in Tuhfat Tahsil, "And the statement of Bahz bin Assad has already been mentioned, that he heard from him. And in Sunan Nasai (2/118) it is stated that Abu Bakra narrated to him, and he mentioned his bowing before reaching the row."Then Ibn Hibban's inclusion of it serves as corroborating evidence for Hasan's hearing from Abu Bakra, as he pointed out in the introduction regarding the matter of the mudallisin whom he includes despite their use of ambiguous transmission phrasing (an'ana).
