The Prophet ﷺ said, "In Ramadan, the gates of heaven are opened, the gates of the Fire are closed, and every rebellious devil is chained. A caller cries out every night, 'Seeker of good, come forward. Seeker of evil, hold back.'"
عن النبي ﷺ، قال: في رمضان تفتح أبواب السماء، وتغلق أبواب النار، ويصفد فيه كل شيطان مريد، وينادي مناد كل ليلة: يا طالب الخير هلم، ويا طالب الشر أمسك.
Narrated by Nasai (2108) and Ahmad (18794), both from the hadith of Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, Shuba narrated to us, from Ata bin Saaib, from Arfaja, who said, I was in a house in which Utba bin Farqad was present, and I intended to narrate a hadith. He said, there was a man among the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who seemed more entitled to narrate it than he was. He said, so the man narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he said (then he mentioned the hadith).Its chain is hasan because of Arfaja, who is Ibn Abdullah Thaqafi. Ajli and Ibn Hibban rated him trustworthy, and a group of narrators reported from him. Ata bin Saaib had his memory become mixed up in later life, but Shuba's transmission from him predates that confusion.Nasai declared erroneous the narration of Sufyan, from Ata bin Saaib, from Arfaja, who said, "We visited Utba bin Farqad, and we discussed the month of Ramadan. He said, 'What are you discussing?' We said, 'The month of Ramadan.' He said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say' (then he mentioned the hadith similarly)."Nasai said, "This is an error," meaning that it makes the hadith part of the musnad of Utba bin Farqad, whereas the correct position is that it belongs to a man among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ. Likewise, Imam Ahmad placed it in the musnad of a man (among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ) and did not place it in the musnad of Utba bin Farqad, since he has no musnad with him at all.
