A man from the people of Najd came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with disheveled hair. The buzz of his voice could be heard, but his words were not intelligible until he drew near. It turned out he was asking about Islam.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Five prayers during the day and night."The man asked, "Is there anything else required of me?"He replied, "No, unless you do so voluntarily."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "And fasting Ramadan."The man asked, "Is there anything else required of me?"He replied, "No, unless you do so voluntarily."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned zakah.The man asked, "Is there anything else required of me?"He replied, "No, unless you do so voluntarily."The man turned away saying, "By Allah, I will not add to this nor subtract from it."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He has succeeded, if he is truthful."
جاء رجل إلى رسول الله ﷺ من أهل نجد، ثائر الرأس يسمع دوي صوته، ولا يفقه ما يقول، حتى دنا فإذا هو يسأل عن الإسلام، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: خمس صلوات في اليوم والليلة فقال: هل علي غيرها؟ قال: لا، إلا أن تطوع قال رسول الله ﷺ: وصيام رمضان، قال: هل علي غيره؟ قال: لا، إلا أن تطوع قال: وذكر رسول الله ﷺ الزكاة، قال: هل علي غيرها؟ قال: لا، إلا أن تطوع، قال: فأدبر الرجل وهو يقول: والله لا أزيد على هذا ولا أنقص، قال رسول الله ﷺ: أفلح إن صدق.
Malik narrated it in "Shortening the Prayer" (94), from his uncle Abu Suhayl bin Malik, from his father, that he heard Talha bin Ubaydullah, and he mentioned the hadith. Bukhari narrated it in "Faith" (46), and Muslim in "Faith" (8), both of them by way of Malik. This hadith has already passed in full in the Book of Faith.
