An Arabi came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, guide me to a deed that, if I perform it, will admit me to Paradise."He replied, "Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, establish the obligatory prayer, pay the obligatory zakat, and fast Ramadan."The man said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, I will never add anything to this, nor will I take anything away from it."When he turned to leave, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever would like to look at a man from the people of Paradise, let him look at this one."
أن أعرابيا جاء إلى رسول ﷺ فقال: يا رسول الله، دلني على عمل إذا عملته دخلت الجنة. قال: تعبد الله لا تشرك به شيئا، وتقيم الصلاة المكتوبة، وتؤدي الزكاة المفروضة، وتصوم رمضان. قال: والذي نفسي بيده لا أزيد على هذا شيئا أبدا، ولا أنقص منه. فلما ولى قال النبي ﷺ: من سره أن ينظر إلى رجل من أهل الجنة فلينظر إلى هذا.
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on zakat (1397), and Muslim in the chapter on faith (14), both through the route of Affan bin Muslim, who said, "Wahib narrated to us, from Yahya bin Saeed bin Hayan, from Abu Zura, from Abu Hurairah," and he related the hadith. The wording given is that of Muslim, and the wording of Bukhari is similar.
