I asked Husayn bin Ali, "What do you remember from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He replied, "I climbed up to the upper room, took a date, and chewed it in my mouth. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Spit it out, for charity is not lawful for us.'"
قلت للحسين بن علي: ما تعقل عن رسول الله ﷺ؟ قال: صعدت غرفة، فأخذت تمرة، فلكتها في فيي، فقال النبي ﷺ: ألقها؛ فإنها لا تحل لنا الصدقة.
Ahmad (1724, 1731), Ibn Khuzayma (2349), and Tahawi in Sharh Maani (2/7) all narrated it through the hadith of Thabit bin Umara, from Rabia bin Shayban, who said, and then he related it. Its chain of transmission is hasan, on account of the discussion surrounding Thabit bin Umara, for there is disagreement about him, though his hadith is hasan.
