The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Allah, I sometimes return to my family and find a date fallen on my bed or in my house, and I pick it up to eat it, but then I fear it may be from the charity, so I throw it away."
عن رسول الله ﷺ قال: والله إني لأنقلب إلى أهلي فأجد التمرة ساقطة على فراشي أو في بيتي فأرفعها لأكلها ثم أخشى أن تكون صدقة أو من الصدقة فألقيها.
Bukhari narrated it in "Lost Property" (2432), and Muslim narrated it in "Zakat" (1070:163), both through the route of Maamar, from Hammam bin Munabbih, from Abu Hurairah, who related the hadith. The wording given here is Muslim's.
