The Prophet ﷺ said, "For one of you to take his rope and bring a bundle of firewood on his back to sell, by which Allah preserves his dignity, is better for him than to beg from people, whether they give him something or refuse him."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: لأن يأخذ أحدكم حبله فيأتي بحزمة الحطب على ظهره فببيعها فيكف الله بها وجهه خير له من أن يسأل الناس أعطوه أو متعوه.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Zakat (1471) from Musa, [who said], Wahib narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, from his father, from Zubayr bin Awwam, and he related it.As for what has been narrated from Ayesha as a marfu report, "It is better for one of you to take a rope and carry firewood to eat and give in charity than to ask people, whether they give him or refuse him." Bazzar narrated it - Kashf Astar (912) - from Humayd, [who said], Ismail bin Abu Fudayk narrated to us, [who said], Dahhak bin Uthman narrated to us, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha, and he related it.Bazzar said, Dahhak alone narrated it with the wording "from Ayesha."I say, Dahhak is Ibn Uthman al-Asadi al-Hizami, Abu Uthman al-Madani. Many scholars deemed him reliable, but Abu Zura said he is "not strong," and Ibn Abdul-Barr said he "makes many mistakes and is not to be relied upon." So his being the sole narrator of this hadith from Ayesha is not acceptable. Rather, what is known is that this hadith comes through the narration of Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Zubayr bin Awwam, as mentioned before, and Bazzar narrated it through that route as well (910). However, Haythami erred and included it in Kashf Astar, even though it does not meet its conditions.Furthermore, Haythami said regarding the hadith of Ayesha, "Its narrators are reliable," without taking into account Bazzar's criticism of it.
