The Prophet ﷺ said, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. Begin with those under your care. The best charity is that given out of surplus wealth. Whoever seeks to remain chaste, Allah will keep him chaste, and whoever seeks to be self-sufficient, Allah will make him self-sufficient."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: اليد العليا خير من اليد السفلى، وابدأ بمن تعول، وخير الصدقة عن ظهر غني، ومن يستعفف يعفه الله، ومن يستغن يغنه الله.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Zakat (1427) from Musa bin Ismail, who said, Wahib narrated to us, who said, Hisham narrated to us, from his father, from Hakeem bin Hizam, and he mentioned it.And from Wahib, who said, Hisham informed us, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, with this same wording.Muslim also related it in the Book of Zakat (1034) through another route from Hakeem bin Hizam, but he did not mention in it, "Whoever seeks self-sufficiency, Allah will make him self-sufficient, and whoever seeks independence, Allah will make him independent."
