When the verses "Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated in the nearest land, but after their defeat they will be victorious" [Rum 30:1–3] were revealed, down to the end of the two verses that follow, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out and began reciting, "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated in the nearest land, but after their defeat they will be victorious."The chiefs of the idolaters of Makkah said, "Son of Abu Quhafa, is this something your companion has brought?"Abu Bakr replied, "No, by Allah, it is the speech of Allah and His word."

Ibn Khuzayma related it in Tawhid (329) from Muhammad bin Yahya, who said, Surayj bin Numan, the pearl merchant, told us, from Ibn Abu Zinad, from Abu Zinad, from Urwa bin Zubayr, from Niyar bin Mukram, and he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Ibn Abu Zinad, who is Abdul-Rahman. He was truthful while he was in Madinah, but his memory changed when he came to Baghdad.Tirmidhi (3194) also transmitted it through the route of Ismail bin Abu Uways, who said, Ibn Abu Zinad told me with his chain, in a longer form, which will come in its proper place. Tirmidhi said, "This hadith is sahih, hasan, and rare. We do not know it from the hadith of Niyar bin Mukram except through the hadith of Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Zinad."I say, it is only hasan, as explained above. As for the saying of Allah , "Indeed, it is the word of a noble messenger" [Takwir 81:19], its meaning is a word that he received from a noble messenger, or heard from a noble messenger, or that a noble messenger brought down. Because Allah, Most High, said, "Then grant him protection until he hears the word of Allah" [Tawbah 9:6], thereby establishing that the Quran is the word of Allah
. A single thing cannot be both the word of the Messengerﷺ and the word of Allah, Most High, at the same time, which shows that the intended meaning in the first case is what we have said. This is a summary of part of what Bayhaqi mentioned in his book Itiqad (pages 94-97), which Hafiz quoted from in Fath al-Bari (13/454).
