On the day of Hunayn, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ favored certain people in the distribution of spoils. He gave Aqra bin Habis a hundred camels, gave Uyayna the same, and gave similar amounts to a number of Arab nobles, favoring them that day in the division.A man said, "By Allah, this is a distribution in which there is no justice, and by which the face of Allah is not sought."I said to myself, "By Allah, I will inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."So I came to him and told him what the man had said. His face changed until it became like dyed cloth, then he said, "Who then is just, if Allah and His Messenger are not just?"Then he said, "May Allah have mercy on Musa. He was harmed with more than this, yet he remained patient."I said, "Truly, after this I will never again carry any report to him."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Obligation of Khumus (3150), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Zakat (1062), both of them via Jareer, from Mansur, from Abu Waail, from Abdullah, who related the hadith. The wording given is Muslim's, and Bukhari's wording is similar.
