The Prophet ﷺ sent out a zakat collector, who came to a certain man, and the man gave him a thin, weak young camel. The Prophet ﷺ said, "We sent out a zakat collector for Allah and His Messenger, and so-and-so gave him a thin, weak young camel! O Allah, do not bless him or his camels."Word of this reached the man, so he came bringing a fine, beautiful she-camel and said, "I repent to Allah and to His Prophet ﷺ."The Prophet ﷺ then said, "O Allah, bless him and his camels."
Nasai (2458) narrated it from Harun bin Zayd bin Yazid, meaning Ibn Abu Zarqa, who said, our father narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Asim bin Kulayb, from his father, (he is Kulayb bin Shihab), from Waail bin Hajar, that the Prophet ﷺ said, then he mentioned it. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih (2274), and narrated it by the route of Sufyan with his chain, similarly.I say, its chain is hasan because of Asim bin Kulayb and his father, for they are both truthful. His saying, "mukhlula" means emaciated, referring to an animal that has had a peg placed in its nose so that it cannot nurse from its mother, causing it to become thin.Related in meaning is what was narrated from Abu Hurairah as a raised report, "When you give zakat, do not forget its reward, that you should say, O Allah, make it a gain and do not make it a loss." This is very daif.Ibn Majah (1797) narrated it from Suwayd bin Saeed, who said, Walid bin Muslim narrated to us, from Bukhtari bin Ubayd, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, then he mentioned it.This Bukhtari is Ibn Ubayd Kalbi Shami. Abu Hatim said, "His hadith is daif." Abu Naeem Asbahani said, "He narrated from his father, from Abu Hurairah, fabricated reports." Abu Fath Azdi said, "A blatant liar." Daraqutni said, "Daif, and his father is unknown."Mizzi said, Ibn Majah narrated two hadiths from him, one of them being this one.
