Saad bin Abu Waqqas reported,

The Prophet ﷺ visited me when I was sick in Mecca.I said, "I have wealth. Shall I bequeath all of it?"He replied, "No."I asked, "Then half?"He said, "No."I asked, "Then a third?"He said, "A third, and a third is plenty. To leave your heirs wealthy is better than to leave them destitute, begging from people. Whatever you spend will count as charity for you, even the morsel you raise to your wife's mouth. Perhaps Allah will raise your station, so that some people will benefit through you and others will be harmed by you."
