The Prophet ﷺ was asked, "Which charity is best?"He replied, "The utmost a person of little means can give."
إن النبي ﷺ سئل: أي الصدقة أفضل؟ فقال: جهد المقل.
Abu Dawud narrated it at length (1449), and in a shortened form (1325), from Imam Ahmad, and it is found in his Musnad (15401), from Hajjaj, who said, Ibn Jurayj said, Uthman bin Abu Sulayman narrated to me, from Ali Azdi, from Ali Azdi, from Ubayd bin Umayr, from Abdullah bin Hubshi, and he related it at length.Nasai narrated it (2526) through another route from Hajjaj, with his chain of transmission, in similar fashion.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Ali Azdi, that is, Ali bin Abdullah Bariqi, about whom there is disagreement, though his hadith is deemed hasan.
