Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us to give charity, one of us would head to the marketplace and work as a porter, earning just a single mudd. Yet today, some of them possess a hundred thousand.
كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا أمرنا بالصدقة انطلق أحدنا إلى السوق فتحامل فيصيب المد وإن لبعضهم اليوم لمائة ألف.
Bukhari narrated it in the Chapter on Zakat (1416), from Saeed bin Yahya, who said, my father narrated to us, Amash narrated to us, from Shaqiq, from Abu Masud Ansari, and he related the hadith.Bukhari (1415) and Muslim (1018) both narrated it as well, by another route, from Shubah, from Sulayman (Amash), from Abu Waail (Shaqiq), from Abu Masud, in a longer version, which will come later in the Book of Tafsir.
