Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on zakat (1434), and Muslim in the chapter on zakat (1029), both from the hadith of Hajjaj bin Muhammad, who said, Ibn Jurayj said, Ibn Abu Mulayka informed us, that Abbad bin Abdullah bin Zubayr informed him, from Asma bint Abu Bakr, that she came and mentioned it. The wording is Muslim's, and Bukhari abridged it and did not mention the story. In another version found in both of them, "Give freely, or sprinkle, or spend." All of these wordings are in Muslim, while in Bukhari it is "Spend" alone, "and do not keep count, or Allah will keep count against you, and do not withhold, or Allah will withhold from you." Both narrated it from Hisham bin Urwa, from Fatimah bint Munzir, from Asma. Bukhari (2591), and Muslim (1029).In Sunan Abu Dawud (1699), Tirmidhi (1961), and Nasai (2551), "Give, and do not tie up the bag, or it will be tied up against you." His saying "do not tie up the bag" means do not hoard, for tying up refers to fastening the neck of a container, which is the cord used to bind it.There is a point of jurisprudence in this hadith, namely that the mistress of the house may spend whatever surplus remains of her provision and need not hoard it. This applies when she is given her daily allowance in an amount sufficient for her need. But if she is given an amount beyond that for an unspecified period, then she may set some of it aside for the time to come, in accordance with the words of Allah Most High, "And do not keep your hand chained to your neck, nor extend it completely, lest you sit blamed and destitute" [Isra 17:29]. All of this falls under the category of piety and kindness.
