The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, during the illness in which he died, said, "Ayesha, what happened to the gold?"She brought between five and seven, or eight, or nine pieces, and he began turning them over in his hand, saying, "What would Muhammad think of Allah if he were to meet Him while these were still in his possession? Spend them in charity."
Imam Ahmad narrated it (24222), (25492), and Baghawi in Sharh al-Sunnah (1658), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (3212), all of them through various routes from Muhammad bin Amr, who said, Abu Salama narrated to me, who said, Ayesha said (and then she mentioned it). Its isnad is hasan because of Muhammad bin Amr, who is Ibn Alqama Laythi, and he is truthful, his hadith being hasan.
