The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no owner of gold or silver who fails to pay its due except that on the Day of Resurrection, plates of fire will be fashioned for him and heated in the Fire of Hell, then his side, his forehead, and his back will be branded with them. Whenever they cool, they will be reheated for him, on a day whose length is fifty thousand years, until judgment is rendered between the servants. Then he will see his path, either to Paradise or to the Fire."Someone asked, "Messenger of Allah, what about camels?"He replied, "Nor is there any owner of camels who fails to pay their due, and part of their due is to milk them on the day they come to water, except that on the Day of Resurrection, he will be laid flat on his face in an open, level plain, and they will be more numerous than ever before, not a single young one missing among them. They will trample him with their hooves and bite him with their mouths. Whenever the first of them passes over him, the last of them is brought back to him, on a day whose length is fifty thousand years, until judgment is rendered between the servants. Then he will see his path, either to Paradise or to the Fire."Someone asked, "Messenger of Allah, what about cattle and sheep?"He replied, "Nor is there any owner of cattle or sheep who fails to pay their due except that on the Day of Resurrection, he will be laid flat on his face in an open, level plain, with not a single one missing. None among them will be twisted-horned, hornless, or broken-horned. They will gore him with their horns and trample him with their hooves. Whenever the first of them passes over him, the last of them is brought back to him, on a day whose length is fifty thousand years, until judgment is rendered between the servants. Then he will see his path, either to Paradise or to the Fire."Someone asked, "Messenger of Allah, what about horses?"He replied, "Horses are of three kinds. For one man they are a burden, for another they are a shield, and for another they are a reward. As for the one for whom they are a burden, that is a man who keeps them out of showing off, pride, and hostility toward the people of Islam. They are a burden upon him. As for the one for whom they are a shield, that is a man who keeps them in the cause of Allah and does not forget the right of Allah concerning their backs and their necks. They are a shield for him."
Muslim narrated it in Zakat (987) from Suwayd bin Saeed, who said, Hafs bin Maysara Sanani told us, from Zayd bin Aslam, that Abu Salih Zakwan informed him that he heard Abu Hurairah say (he then narrated it).Malik narrated it in Jihad (3), and from him Bukhari narrated it in Musaqah (2371), from Zayd bin Aslam, with his chain, with some differences in wording.Bayhaqi said, "In the hadith it says, 'and he does not forget the right of Allah upon their backs and bellies, in hardship and in ease.' That does not indicate zakat."Ibn Turkmani responded to him in Jawhar Naqi, saying, "Rather, the apparent meaning of his statement, 'and he did not forget the right of Allah regarding their necks,' does indicate it, together with the supporting evidence of his statement in the sahih hadith at its beginning, 'There is no owner of hoarded wealth who does not pay its zakat...'"Ibn Jawzi said in Tahqiq (3/43), after mentioning this hadith and using it as evidence, "The response to it comes from two angles. The first is that by 'the right' he means lending it out and letting stranded travelers ride upon it, which would be in the sense of a recommendation rather than an obligation. The second is that this may have been obligatory at one point and then abrogated, as indicated by his statement, 'I have pardoned you regarding zakat on horses,' since a pardon can only apply to something that was binding."As for what was narrated from Jabir, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "For grazing horses, there is a dinar due on every horse," this is daif.Daraqutni narrated it (2019), saying, Ahmad bin Abdan Shirazi informed me, in what he wrote to me, that Muhammad bin Musa Harithi told them, Ismail bin Yahya bin Bahr Kirmani told us, Layth bin Hammad Istakhari told us, Abu Yusuf told us, from Ghawrak bin Hadrami, Abu Abdullah, from Jafar bin Muhammad, from his father, from Jabir, who narrated it.Bayhaqi narrated it (4/119) through this same route.Daraqutni said, "Ghawrak alone narrated it from Jafar, and he is very daif, and those below him in the chain are daif narrators as well."
