The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you have paid the zakat on your wealth, you have fulfilled what is due upon you."
إن رسول الله ﷺ قال: إذا أديت زكاة مالك، فقد قضيت ما عليك.
Tirmidhi (618) and Ibn Majah (1788) both narrated it through Darraj Abu Samh, from Ibn Hayrah, from Abu Hurairah, as mentioned. Its chain is hasan, because of the discussion surrounding Darraj Abu Samh, for his narration from Abu Haytham is considered weak, since there is weakness in it, as Imam Ahmad said, but in his narrations from others he is hasan.Ibn Khuzayma (2471), Ibn Hibban (3216), and Hakim (1/390) graded it sahih, and Hakim treated it as a sahih corroborating witness for the hadith before it. That earlier hadith is what Hakim narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah, raising it to the Prophet, "When you pay the zakat on your wealth, you have removed its evil from yourself."However, Abu Zura, Bayhaqi, and others held it to be more likely that this saying stops at Jabir himself rather than going back to the Prophet, as Ibn Hajar stated in Fath al-Bari (3/272). But the correct view is that it does go back to the Prophet, as already mentioned.Among the reports that stop at a companion is what Bukhari narrated in the Book of Zakat (1404). He said, Ahmad bin Shabib said, from Khalid bin Aslam, who said, We went out with Abdullah bin Umar, and a bedouin said, "Tell me about the saying of Allah, "And those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in the way of Allah" [Tawbah 9:34]."Ibn Umar said, "Whoever hoards it and does not pay its zakat, woe to him. This was only the case before zakat was revealed. But once it was revealed, Allah made it a purification for wealth."Further discussion of this will come in the tafsir of Surah Tawbah. Ahmad bin Shabib is among the teachers of Bukhari, so the ruling is that this chain is fully connected.
