The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever leaves behind a hoarded treasure, it will be made manifest to him on the Day of Resurrection as a bald serpent with two black spots above its eyes, chasing him with its mouth open. He will say, 'Woe to you, what are you?' It will reply, 'I am your treasure that you left behind.' It will keep pursuing him until it makes him put his hand into its mouth, and it will gnaw on it, then devour the rest of his body."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: من ترك بعده كنزا مثل له يوم القيامة شجاعا أقرع له زبيبتان يتبع فاه، فيقول: ويلك مالك؟ فيقول: أنا كنزك الذي تركته بعدك فلا يزال يتبعه حتى يلقمه يده، فيقضمها، ثم يتبعه سائر جسده.
Tabarani narrated it in Kabir (1408), and Bazzar in Kashf Astar (882), and Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih (2255), and Hakim (1/388), all of them through routes from Yazid bin Zuray, who said, Saeed bin Abu Aruba narrated to us, from Qatada, from Salim bin Abu Jaad Ghatafani, from Madan bin Abu Talha Yamuri, from Thawban, and he related it.Bazzar said, "Something similar has been narrated with this wording through a different route, but we do not know of any path to it except this one. Its isnad is hasan." Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim." What Hakim said is correct, for Madan bin Abu Talha is among the narrators of Muslim alone, and its isnad is sahih. Haythami mentioned it in Majma (3/64), attributing it to Bazzar and quoting his statement, and he said, "Its narrators are trustworthy, and Tabarani narrated it in Kabir."
