The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no owner of a treasure who does not pay its zakat except that it will be heated in the fire of Hell and made into plates with which his sides and forehead will be branded, until Allah judges between His servants on a day whose length is fifty thousand years. Then he will see his path, either to Paradise or to the Fire. And there is no owner of camels who does not pay their zakat except that he will be laid flat on a level plain for them, as numerous as they ever were, and they will trample him with their hooves. Whenever the last of them has passed over him, the first of them is brought back to him, until Allah judges between His servants on a day whose length is fifty thousand years. Then he will see his path, either to Paradise or to the Fire. And there is no owner of sheep who does not pay their zakat except that he will be laid flat on a level plain for them, as numerous as they ever were, and they will trample him with their cloven hooves and gore him with their horns. None of them will be hornless or have twisted horns. Whenever the last of them has passed over him, the first of them is brought back to him, until Allah judges between His servants on a day whose length is fifty thousand of the years you count. Then he will see his path, either to Paradise or to the Fire."Suhayl said, "I do not know whether he mentioned cattle or not."They asked, "What about horses, Messenger of Allah?"He answered, "Horses have goodness tied to their forelocks," or he said, "Goodness is bound in their forelocks." Suhayl said, "I am not sure which." "Until the Day of Resurrection. Horses are of three kinds. For one man they are a reward, for another a covering, and for another a burden. As for the one for whom they are a reward, it is the man who keeps them for the sake of Allah and prepares them for that purpose. Nothing they consume into their bellies but Allah records a reward for him. If he grazes them in a meadow, they eat nothing but Allah records a reward for him. If he waters them from a river, for every drop that goes into their bellies he has a reward." He even mentioned reward in their urine and dung. "And if they gallop up one or two heights, for every step they take he is given a reward. As for the one for whom they are a covering, it is the man who keeps them out of dignity and adornment, yet does not neglect the rights owed regarding their backs and bellies, in his hardship and his ease.As for the one for whom they are a burden, it is the man who keeps them out of arrogance, pride, extravagance, and showing off to people. That is the one for whom they are a burden."They asked, "What about donkeys, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "Allah has not revealed anything to me concerning them except this comprehensive, singular verse, 'So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it' [Zalzalah 99:7–8]."
