I was sitting with Sulayman bin Surad and Khalid bin Arfata when they mentioned that a man had died from a stomach ailment. Both of them wished to be present at his funeral.One of them said to the other, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ not say, 'Whoever is killed by his stomach will not be punished in his grave'?"The other replied, "Yes, indeed."
كنت جالسا، وسليمان بن صرد وخالد بن عرفطة فذكروا أن رجلا توفي، مات ببطنه فإذا هما يشتهيان أن يكونا شهداء جنازته، فقال أحدهما للآخر: ألم يقل رسول الله ﷺ: من يقتله بطنه فلن يعذب في قبره فقال الآخر: بلى.
Nasai (2052) narrated it from Muhammad bin Abdul-Ala, who said, Khalid narrated to us, from Shubah, who said, Jami bin Shaddad informed me, who said, I heard Abdullah bin Yasar, and he mentioned it. Its isnad is sahih, and Ibn Hibban (2933) also graded it sahih. Imam Ahmad (18310) also reported it, both of them from the hadith of Shubah.Tirmidhi (1064) narrated it through another route from Abu Ishaq Sabi, who said, Sulayman bin Surad said to Khalid bin Urfutah (or Khalid Sulayman), and he mentioned it. He said, "Hasan gharib from this route, and it has been narrated from other than this route."I say, perhaps by this he is pointing to the route reported by Nasai and others, as found in Bayhaqi's Ithbat Azab Qabr (169, 170).
