The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah rejoices more at the repentance of one of you than any of you would rejoice upon finding his lost property."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: الله أشد فرحا بتوبة أحدكم من أحد بضالته إذا وجدها.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Repentance (2675) from Abdullah bin Maslama Qanabi, who said, Mughira (meaning Ibn Abdul-Rahman Hazami) narrated to us, from Abu Zinad, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it. He also narrated it through another route, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ,"Allah says, I am as My servant thinks of Me, and I am with him when he remembers Me. By Allah, Allah rejoices more at the repentance of His servant than any of you would rejoice at finding his lost animal in the wilderness. Whoever draws near to Me a hand span, I draw near to him an arm's length, and whoever draws near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom, and if he comes to Me walking, I come to him running."Bukhari also recorded this second version in the Book of Monotheism (7405) through the route of Abu Salih, except that he did not mention in it, "Allah rejoices more at the repentance of His servant than any of you would rejoice at finding his lost animal in the wilderness."
