The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, regarding the words "a constrained life," "It is the punishment of the grave."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: معيشة ضنكا- قال: عذاب القبر.
Hakim narrated it (2/381), and from him Bayhaqi in Ithbat Azab Qabr (71), from Abu Zakariya Anbari, who said, our teacher Muhammad bin Abdul-Salam told us, our teacher Ishaq told us, Nadr bin Shumayl informed us, our teacher Hammad bin Salama told us, from Abu Hazim Madani, from Numan bin Abu Ayyash, from Abu Saeed, and he related it. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim." Ibn Kathir said in his Tafsir, "Its isnad is good."Abdul-Razzaq also narrated it (6741) from Ibn Uyayna, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Salama, from Abu Saeed Khudri, who said regarding "then he will have a straitened life" [Taha 20:124], "It means his grave will close in on him until his ribs interlock." He did not attribute this to the Prophet as a raised report, and treating it as raised is an addition to the knowledge, which is accepted by the majority of scholars.
