The Prophet ﷺ performed the funeral prayer over a young boy, or perhaps a young girl, and said, "If anyone were to be spared the squeezing of the grave, it would have been this child."
أن النبي ﷺ صلى على صبي، أو صبية فقال: لو كان نجا أحد من ضمة القبر لنجا هذا الصبي.
Tabarani related it in Al-Awsat (3774) from Ibrahim (that is, Ibn Hashim Baghawi), who said, "Ibrahim bin Hajjaj Sami told us, saying, Hammad bin Salama told us, from Thumama bin Abdullah bin Anas, from Anas," and he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Thumama bin Abdullah bin Anas, for he is "truthful." Haythami said in Majma (3/47), "Tabarani related it in Al-Awsat, and its narrators are trustworthy." I say, it is as he said, for Ibrahim bin Hajjaj Sami is trustworthy. Daraqutni and others deemed him trustworthy, and he is among the narrators used by Nasai. As for what was reported from Anas bin Malik, who said, Zaynab, daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died, so we went out with him, and we saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ deeply distressed and grieving intensely. We said we would not speak to him, until we reached the grave, and found that its niche had not yet been finished. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down and we sat around him. He remained absorbed in thought for a while, looking up at the sky. Then the grave was finished, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went down into it. I saw him grow even more grieved. Then when he finished and came out, I saw that his distress had lifted and he smiled ﷺ. We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we saw you distressed and grieving, so we could not speak to you, then we saw your distress lift. What was that about?" He said, "I was recalling the narrowness of the grave and its pressure, and Zaynab's weakness, and that troubled me greatly, so I asked Allah to ease it for her, and He did. He squeezed her with a squeeze that was heard by everyone between the east and the west, except the jinn and mankind." This is daif.Tabarani related it in Al-Kabir (1/230, 22/433) from Muhammad bin Abdullah Hadrami, "Imran bin Abu Ratil told us, Habib bin Khalid Asadi told us, from Amash, from Abdullah bin Mughira, from Anas bin Malik," and he mentioned it.He also reported it in Al-Awsat (5806) by another route from Muhammad bin Abdullah Hadrami, who said, "Uthman bin Abu Shayba told us, saying, Ishaq bin Sulayman Razi told us, from Zakariya bin Sallam, from Saeed bin Masruq, from Anas," and he mentioned it in brief, and he said, "No one narrated this hadith from Saeed bin Masruq except Zakariya bin Sallam, and Ishaq bin Sulayman alone transmitted it." From this second route he also reported it in Al-Kabir (22/433–434).Haythami said in Al-Majma (3/47), after attributing it to Al-Kabir and Al-Awsat, "Its chain is daif," without clarifying the reason for its weakness.Ibn Jawzi reported it in Ilal Mutanahiya (2/426–427), and in Al-Mawduat (3/541–543) through several routes, and he said, "This hadith is not sound through any of its routes." Daraqutni said, "Amash related it, and there is disagreement over his narration. Abu Hamza Sukkari related it from Amash, from Sulayman bin Mughira, from Anas. Saad bin Salt related it from Amash, from Abu Sufyan, from Anas. Habib bin Khalid Asadi related it from Amash, from Abdullah bin Mughira, from Anas. The hadith is inconsistent as narrated from Amash." End of quote.Hakim reported it in Al-Mustadrak (4/46) through the route of Saad bin Salt, with his chain, in brief.I say, along with the inconsistency in the narration from Amash, among those who related it from him are Saad bin Salt and Habib bin Khalid Asadi, neither of whom is commended. As for Abu Hamza Sukkari, who is Muhammad bin Maymun, he is trustworthy and excellent.
