The Prophet ﷺ once entered a date-palm grove belonging to the tribe of Banu Najjar, and he heard the voices of Some men from Banu Najjar who had died in the time of pre-Islamic ignorance being punished in their graves. The Prophet ﷺ came out alarmed, and he ordered his companions to seek refuge from the punishment of the grave.
Ahmad reported it (14152) from Abdul-Razzaq, and it is in his Musannaf (6742), where he said, Ibn Jurayj informed us, Abu Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir bin Abdullah, and he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Abu Zubayr.Bazzar reported it in Kashf Astar (871) through another route from Musa bin Uqba, from Abu Zubayr, with his chain, similarly. Tabarani reported it in Awsat (4625) through another route from Usama bin Zayd, from Abu Zubayr, with his chain, and added in it, "They are punished in their graves for gossip-mongering."Tabarani said, "No one narrated this hadith from Usama bin Zayd except Ibn Lahia." I say, Haythami likewise faulted it for this reason in Majma (3/55), saying, "Ahmad, Bazzar, and Tabarani in Awsat reported it, and the men of Ahmad's chain are the men of sahih, but in Tabarani's chain is Ibn Lahia, about whom there is some discussion." The core of the hadith has been corroborated.
