The Prophet ﷺ said, "The deceased hears the sound of sandals when the people turn away from him departing. Then he is made to sit up, his shroud is placed around his neck, and he is questioned."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: إن الميت يسمع حس النعال إذا ولوا عنه الناس مدبرين، ثم يجلس ويوضع كفنه في عنقه، ثم يسأل.

Baghawi narrated it in Sharh al-Sunnah (5/413) with his chain of transmission from Ibn Adi, who said, Abdullah bin Saeed narrated to us, Assad bin Musa narrated to us, Anbasah bin Saeed bin Kathir narrated to us, saying, my grandfather narrated to me, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. The Shaykh said, "Kathir, the grandfather of Anbasah, is Kathir bin Ubayd, the foster brother of Ayesha and the freedman of Abu Bakr."Its chain is hasan. Kathir bin Ubayd Taymi was narrated from by a group of narrators, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators. No criticism is found against him, and there is nothing objectionable in his hadith, so his hadith is judged hasan when it has an established basis, and this is one such case.Baghawi said, "The fact that the dead hears the sound of sandals is evidence for the permissibility of walking in sandals in the presence of graves and among them." He also said, "The majority hold that there is no dislike in doing so."What indicates that it is disliked, according to Imam Ahmad, has already been mentioned.
