A man was struck by an arrow in his chest, or in his throat, and died. He was wrapped in his clothes just as he was, while we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
رمى رجل بسهم في صدره، أو في حلقه فمات، فأدرج في ثيابه كما هو، ونحن مع رسول الله ﷺ.
Abu Dawud (3133) and Ahmad (14952) both narrated it through routes from Ibrahim bin Tahman, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, who mentioned it. Its isnad is hasan because of Abu Zubayr.As for what has been narrated from Ibn Abbas mentioning Hamza bin Abdul-Muttalib alongside Hanzala, it is daif. Tabarani narrated it in al-Kabir (11/391), and its isnad contains Sharik, who has poor memory, and it also contains men I do not recognize. As for Haythami, he said in al-Majma (3/23), "Its isnad is hasan."Tabarani also narrated it from another route (12/365), and Bayhaqi (2/15), and it contains Abu Shayba, who is discarded.Hakim narrated it (3/195) from another route mentioning Hamza alone, and said, "Its isnad is sahih." Dhahabi commented on this, saying, "It contains Mualla (Ibn Abdul-Rahman Wasiti), who is ruined."Ibn Saad narrated it from Hasan Basri as a marfu report, but it is mursal. For this reason, the scholars have ruled that the mention of Hamza in the account of the angels washing him is anomalous.
