The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A brother of yours has died, so stand and pray over him," meaning the Negus.In another narration, "Your brother."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن أخا لكم قد مات، فقوموا فصلوا عليه يعني النجاشي. وفي رواية: إن أخاكم.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Funerals (953) through several routes from Ayub, from Abu Qilaba, from Abu Muhallab, from Imran bin Husayn, mentioning it as such. Imam Ahmad (20005) and others narrated it through another route from Yahya bin Abu Kathir, from Abu Qilaba, and it contains, "So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood in rows, and we stood in rows behind him, and he prayed over him, and we did not think the bier was anything but placed right in front of him." Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (3102), and narrated it through this route.
