Someone was mentioned in a negative way before the Prophet ﷺ after his death, so he said, "Do not speak of your dead except with good."
ذكر عند النبي ﷺ هالك بسوء فقال: لا تذكروا هلكاكم إلا بخير.
Nasai narrated it (1935) from Ibrahim bin Yaqub, who said, "Ahmad bin Ishaq narrated to me," who said, "Wahib narrated to us," "Mansur bin Abdul-Rahman narrated to us, from his mother, from Ayesha," and mentioned it. Its chain is sahih, and Mansur's mother is Safiya, as her name is explicitly mentioned in Musannaf Ibn Abu Shayba (3/367) and Zuhd by Hannad (1165), both narrated from Waki, from Sufyan, from Mansur bin Safiya, from his mother, from Ayesha, mentioning it. Safiya is the daughter of Shuba bin Uthman bin Abu Talha Abdari. She is counted among those who saw the Prophet, and she narrated from Ayesha and others.Of similar meaning is what was narrated from Ibn Umar, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Mention the good qualities of your dead, and refrain from mentioning their faults."Abu Dawud (4900) and Tirmidhi (1019) narrated it, both from the hadith of Muawiya bin Hisham, from Imran bin Anas Makki, from Ataa, from Ibn Umar, mentioning it. Tirmidhi said, "This is an isolated hadith. I heard Muhammad say, 'Imran bin Anas Makki's hadith is rejected.'" And it is as he said, for Aqeeli also mentioned him in "Al-Duafa" and said, "He is not corroborated in his narration."Of similar meaning also is what was narrated from Abdullah bin Amr bin As, who said, "One who reviles the dead is like one on the verge of destruction." Ibn Abu Shayba (12113) narrated it from Abu Muawiya, from Amash, from Khaythama bin Abdul-Rahman, from Abdullah bin Amr bin As, who said it, and he mentioned it as a mawquf narration.Muharibi (whose name is Abdul-Rahman bin Muhammad) differed from Abu Muawiya, narrating it from Amash, from Khaythama bin Abdul-Rahman with the same wording, but as a marfu narration. Bazzar narrated it, in Kashf Astar (2036), and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (13/527), both through the route of Muharibi, who said, "I heard Amash and Ala bin Musayab both narrating it from Khaythama with the same wording, as marfu."Abdul-Rahman bin Muhammad Muharibi, Abu Muhammad Kufi, is disputed. A group deemed him reliable, while others criticized him. Ibn Saad said, "He was a reliable shaykh who made many mistakes." Abu Dawud said, "He errs as people err."I say, he erred in this hadith by narrating it from Amash and Ala as marfu, while the correct view is that it is mawquf, as narrated by Abu Muawiya Muhammad bin Khazim, the blind, who is the most retentive of people regarding the hadith of Amash.
