One day, food was brought to Abdul Rahman bin Awf, and he said, "Musab bin Umayr was killed, and he was better than I am, yet nothing could be found to shroud him in except a single cloak. I truly fear that the good things due to us have been hastened for us in this worldly life." Then he began to weep.
أتى عبد الرحمن بن عوف يوما بطعامه، فقال: قتل مصعب بن عمير- وكان خيرا مني- فلم يوجد له ما يكفن فيه إلا بردة، لقد خشيت أن يكون قد عجلت لنا طيباتنا في حياتنا الدنيا، ثم جعل يبكي.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Funerals (1274), from Ahmad bin Muhammad Al-Makki, who said, Ibrahim bin Saad narrated to us, from Saad, from his father, and he related it.In the version of Shubah, from Saad bin Ibrahim, from his father Ibrahim, it includes, "He was shrouded in a single cloak, if his head was covered his feet showed, and if his feet were covered his head showed." And I think he said, "And Hamza was killed, though he was better than me, then this world was spread out for us as it was spread out," or he said, "we were given from this world what we were given, and we feared that our good deeds had been given to us in advance."
