Ati reported,

I saw an elderly man in Madinah speaking to people, so I asked about him. They said, "This is Ubayy bin Kaab."He said, "When death came to Adam عليه السلام, he said to his sons, 'My sons, I have a craving for some of the fruits of Paradise.' So they went out searching for it for him. The angels met them carrying his shroud, his burial scent, and with them were axes, shovels, and baskets. The angels said to them, 'Children of Adam, what do you want and what are you seeking?' or 'What do you want and where are you going?'They said, 'Our father is ill and has a craving for the fruits of Paradise.'The angels said to them, 'Go back, for the matter of your father has already been decreed.'So they came back. When Hawwa saw them, she recognized them and clung to Adam for protection. Adam said, 'Get away from me, for I have been afflicted only because of you. Leave me alone with the angels of my Lord تبارك وتعالى.'So they took his soul, washed him, shrouded him, applied the burial scent, dug his grave, made a side niche for him, and prayed over him. Then they entered his grave, placed him in it, set the bricks over him, came out of the grave, and poured the dirt over him. Then they said, 'Children of Adam, this is your way of burial.'"
