The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever washes a deceased person and conceals their faults, Allah will conceal his sins, and whoever shrouds a deceased person, Allah will clothe him in fine silk."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: من غسل ميتا فستره ستره الله من الذنوب، ومن كفنه كساه الله من السندس.

Tabarani narrated it in Mujam al-Kabir (8/337) from Ahmad bin Sahl bin Ayub Ahwazi, who said, Abdul-Malik bin Marwan Hadhdha narrated to us, Salim bin Akhdar narrated to us, Suayr bin Khams narrated to us, from Abu Ghalib, from Abu Umama, and he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Suayr bin Khams and his teacher Abu Ghalib, for both of them are truthful. As for Tabarani's teacher Ahmad bin Sahl bin Ayub, Hafiz gave his biography in Lisan (1/184) and mentioned another hadith of his besides this one, saying, "This is a munkar report, and a composite chain," and there is further discussion of him, refer to it. Haythami did not mention this hadith in Majma even though it meets his criteria, but he mentioned the one after it, which is from Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal, who said, Abu Rabi Zahrani narrated to me, Mutamir bin Sulayman narrated to us, from Abu Abdullah Shami, from Abu Ghalib, from Abu Umama, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "Whoever washes a deceased person and conceals what he saw of him, Allah will purify him of his sins, and if he shrouds him, Allah will clothe him in silk brocade." He said, "In it is Abu Abdullah Shami, who narrated from Abu Khalid, and I did not find anyone who gave his biography." Majma (3/21). He said thus, "Abu Khalid," but the correct reading is Abu Ghalib. As for Abu Abdullah Shami, he may be the one Bukhari mentioned in Kuna within his Tarikh (9/49, no. 427), where he said, "Abu Abdullah Shami, Jafar bin Sulayman narrated from him," and he said nothing about him, so he is "acceptable," because he was corroborated in the first chain. As for what is narrated from Ibn Umar in marfu form, "Let only the trustworthy wash your dead," it is fabricated. Ibn Majah narrated it (1461) from Muhammad bin Musaffa Himsi, who said, Baqiya bin Walid narrated to us, from Bishr bin Ubayd, from Zayd bin Aslam, from Abdullah bin Umar, and he mentioned it. In it is Baqiya bin Walid, who practices the tadlis of leveling, and his teacher Bishr bin Ubayd lies. Imam Ahmad said, "Baqiya and Abu Mughira narrated fabricated, lying hadiths from him." Daraqutni said, "He lies."Likewise, what is narrated from Ali bin Abu Talib in marfu form is not sound, "Whoever washes a deceased person, shrouds him, embalms him, carries him, prays over him, and does not spread what he saw of him, emerges from his sin as on the day his mother bore him." Ibn Majah narrated it (1462) from Ali bin Muhammad, who said, Abdul-Rahman Muharibi narrated to us, who said, Abbad bin Kathir narrated to us, from Amr bin Khalid, from Habib bin Abu Thabit, from Asim bin Damra, from Ali, and he mentioned it. In it is Amr bin Khalid Abu Khalid Qurashi, whom Ahmad, Yahya bin Main, Abu Dawud, and others accused of lying, and Abu Zura said, "He used to fabricate hadith."Likewise, what is narrated, "The Muslim has eight rights over the Muslim," mentioning among them washing the deceased, is not sound. Shaykh Jalaluddin Khabazi mentioned it in his marginal notes. Zaylai said in Nasb Raya (2/257), "This hadith, I have not recognized it, nor have I found it."Likewise, what is narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah in marfu form is not sound, "Whoever digs a grave, Allah builds for him a house in Paradise, whoever washes a deceased person emerges from his sins as on the day his mother bore him, whoever shrouds a deceased person, Allah clothes him in garments of Paradise, whoever consoles a grieving person, Allah clothes him in piety and prays over his soul among the souls, whoever consoles someone afflicted, Allah clothes him in two garments from the garments of Paradise, garments for which this world cannot compare, whoever follows a funeral procession until its burial is completed, three qirats are recorded for him, each qirat greater than Mount Uhud, and whoever takes care of an orphan or a widow, Allah shades him in His shade and admits him into Paradise." Tabarani narrated it in Awsat (9292) from Hashim bin Marthad, Mu'afa bin Sulayman narrated to us, Musa bin Ayun narrated to us, from Khalil bin Murra, from Ismail bin Ibrahim, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he mentioned it. Tabarani said, "It is not narrated from Jabir except through this chain." In it is Khalil bin Murra Dubai, about whom Bukhari said, "His hadith is munkar," Nasai said, "Daif," Yahya bin Main said, "Daif," and Ibn Hibban said, "His hadith about well-known narrators is munkar, and he narrates extensively from unknown narrators." I say, his teacher Ismail bin Ibrahim is among the unknown narrators if he is Ibn Shammas Ansari.Likewise, what is narrated from Ayesha in marfu form is not sound, "Whoever washes a deceased person and fulfills the trust regarding him, and does not spread what occurs to him at that time, emerges from his sins as on the day his mother bore him." She said, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let the one closest to him among you wash him if he has the knowledge, and if he does not have the knowledge, then whoever you think has a share of scrupulousness and trustworthiness." Imam Ahmad narrated it (24881), and Tabarani in Mujam al-Awsat (3599), both through the route of Sallam bin Abu Mutee, from Jabir bin Yazid Jufi, from Amir, from Yahya bin Jazzar, from Ayesha, and she mentioned it. Tabarani said, "This hadith is not narrated from Ayesha except through this chain, Sallam bin Abu Mutee narrated it alone." I say, Jabir bin Yazid Jufi is a Rafidi and daif, and Haythami cited this defect in Majma (3/21), saying, "There is much discussion about him." Yahya bin Jazzar Kufi is extreme in Shiism, though he is trustworthy.
